About Textile

The department of Textile Engineering (TE) of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University started its journey in 2005 with a view to bring a new era in the history of textile and apparel sector of Bangladesh. As textile and apparel industry is the leading sector in Bangladesh and this sector is the pioneer and unparallel till today in terms of earning foreign currency, production and employment scopes in our country; so this department is committed to provide expert textile graduate to support the amiable industrial development in the country. The academic activities of the department started from the session of 2005-2006 with 2 faculties and 51 students with supportive 6 staffs. At present the department has about 270 students studying in different years and semesters. Almost 300 students have completed graduation from this department who has already proved their proficiency through technical knowledge, sincerity and integrity.

 

The department follows the contemporary and up to date education system to contend with the world advanced society. In each academic year the department arrange industrial visit for the students to familiarize them with the practical application. Furthermore, each final year student has to carry out 8 weeks industrial training after completion of the course. In addition, project/thesis is mandatory for final year student on a theme selected by the respective academic committee.

 

The department had been awarded a sub project entitled “Improving the undergraduate program and launching MS program in the department of Textile Engineering (TE)” under Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) funded by World Bank and University Grants Commission of Bangladesh. M.Sc. in Textile Engineering had inaugurated for the first time in Bangladesh by this department in 2011 under HEQEP project. Around 50 students have earned their M.Sc. in Textile Engineering degree from this department under the session of 2011-2012, 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 completing state of the art research in composites, natural dyes, process improvement along with industrial engineering and ergonomics. The department has a number of laboratories such as physical testing laboratory, wet testing laboratory, garments manufacturing laboratory, computer lab, analytical and processing laboratory for dyeing and finishing which are equipped with Titan (Universal Strength Tester), Truburst3 (Bursting Strength Tester), Data color (Color Spectrophotometer), UV-Visible spectrophotometer, FT-IR Spectrophotometer, circular knitting machine, continuous finishing set up for textiles, equipment for testing and characterizing textile waste water and many other up to date machines to support the practical classes and research activities in the department.
